At our meeting with the new RE (have I mentioned that he's incredibly thorough and patient) last Friday, we were informed that I had tested positive with homozygous MTHFR mutation. I'm now taking Folgard twice a day and baby aspirin. The RE explained that the treating this is still controversial, but that given my history, repeated early losses AND a placental abruption during my pregnancy with my daughter, he did not want to ignore it. THIS is the thing I asked my former RE to test me for, and he refused. I know it's controversial and that it could be a red herring, but I'm still pissed!
Oops, I almost forgot my question of the day. This is all so new and I'm curious if anyone else out there who's been diagnosed has any good research or advice to share?

I read this article too and meant to post about it. The same GH also talked about medical tourists and mentions IVF/DE as an aside reason people travel.
But I was surprised that on last night's Private Practice (Brenneman's new show) the RE had a chance to offer PGD and they didn't even mention it. I know its touchy, but hey, its an option.

ME TOO! I was diagnosed with MTHFR about a year ago. I have lost 3 pregnancies. I began taking the Folgard and the baby aspirin right away! I didn't have a successful pg while on them though. My RE suggested I go to a hematologist and get put on injectible blood thinners...which I did...stopped IVFs and went back to IUI and I am now 7 weeks pg. I am taking Lovenox once a day - its a pretty expensive blood thinner, but so far its done the trick. I went through the hematologist so that my insurance would cover it. I have to take the shot every night while pg. Did your doc explain why it prevents you from carrying a baby? Its b/c your blood runs too thick and can't feed the embryo.
